Chad got a bicycle on Friday. It came in the mail in a big box. When he tried to put it together he found that some of the pieces had been left out. Just a few minor things . . . like brakes. We took it to a local bike shop on Saturday to get the missing pieces attached and everything tuned up tight. I pulled my bike out of the shed and took it in as well. It was very dirty and the tires were just sad.

We waited all weekend to try out our bicycle skills. Are they really something one never forget? We needed to find out. Chad picked up our bikes last night after work and brought them home. We shotgunned our dinner (delicious leftover pot roast and roasted vegetables!) and geared up for the ride.

It was awesome. Changing gears was a little confusing at first, but through lots of trial and error I gleaned a workable knowledge. Enough to get me up a couple gnarly hills.

We decided to ride to our friends' house in town. We stopped in to visit and played with their cute little baby (which I found out today was pretty nice for them because he ended up sleeping 8 hours solid last night).

I checked on Google Maps today and the distance to their house was 2.3 miles. So, with our little detour around the block on the way home, I'm pretty sure we covered 5 miles! I'm impressed with that for our first try.

When was the last time you rode a bike?

The brakes! Wow. Keith told me they left out a few parts, but I didn't know it was the brakes. Feel free to bike over any time you want. The weather will hopefully be cooling down after August. The last time I rode a bike was in high school. I was never a big bike rider even as a kid. My balance sucks!
